Lynn Haven History
|
WH Lynn was a senator from the state of New York and publisher of the Grand Army of the Republic National Tribune. With the age of his readers growing, Lynn saw an opportunity to help. Lynn pushed the idea of selecting sites in this area for retirement of the Union Army Civil War veterans.
Being encouraged by Minor C. Keith, who recently bought a large number of acres in the area where Lynn Haven is located, Lynn planned the communities of St. Cloud and Lynn Haven.
The property of Minor C. Keith was divided into numbered streets running in the east and west direction and states running in the north and south direction. Each of the lots (50'X50') sold for $150.00. the lots were offered in a type of lottery which allowed all areas grow at a similar rate.
Memorial Day 1911 was the first event to be held in the town of Lynn Haven. In 1911, the Lynn Haven post office was approved. soon after, the area began to flourish.
the veterans were able to provide schools for their children and all types of educational opportunities.
To this day the area has retained it's small town appeal and it's status as a great placed to live.
